European Blackboard Users Meeting

Last week a meeting of blackboard users (mainly administrators) from Germany, Austria and Switzerland took place in Bochum (Gemany). For this time, german speaking WebCT Vista clients were also invited to participate.

The atmosphere among the Blackboard clients was tense. Most of them are very disappointed by the way they have been treated by Blackboard during the last two years. There was a consensus, that the company widely ignores client requests for support or product enhancements.

There were representatives of about a dozen Bb and Vista installations. Only two of them (both small scale installations) reported no problems. All others are in seriuos trouble and many of them are considering moving away to another product, if the situation doesn't change soon. One representative reported about their definitive decision, to stop their Bb server and migrate to Moodle. In a convincing presentation he compared Blackboard, Sakai and Moodle and explained, why Moodle will be the best choice for them in the long run.

What scared me most, is that Bb customer support seems to be considerably worse than WebCT support ever was.
